Transforming the Portfolio Product Support Lifecycle through Automation

Information:

In addition to the table below, please refer to the Studio-specific and Foundation-specific Product Availability Matrix.
Detailed information can be read in The Software Maintenance Handbook.

As new versions of Precisely software are released, older versions go through a product life cycle that involves three phases:

  1. Full Support: This phase begins on the release date of the product. Customers using fully supported products receive customer support for all major and minor releases. They can receive assistance with debugging scripts, solution development, and programmatic code fixes. Full support also includes access to online help, product training, and the option to purchase additional product licenses.

  2. Limited Support: When Full Support concludes, the support level for a customer using a specific product version transitions to Limited Support. This occurs when working with a Microsoft or SAP product version that has ended mainstream or extended support, or when any other third-party product version reaches its end of support or end-of-life. Customers in Limited Support still receive assistance with debugging scripts and solution development, but not programmatic code fixes. Upgrading to a newer version is recommended for customers requiring programmatic code fixes or considering migration to Automate Evolve or Automate Studio Manager.

  3. Extended Limited Support: This phase applies only to Automate Foundation Server-based products. Customers receive continued limited support but with an annual cost increase. The maintenance cost increase for perpetual licenses during the first, second, and third years of extended limited support is 40%, 55%, and 75% more than the limited support period maintenance cost, respectively. Upgrading the product version or migrating to another product can avoid these cost increases.

Additionally, the support policy for third-party products should be reviewed for further information.

Finally, when Extended Limited Support concludes, the product enters the End of Life phase. At this stage, product support is discontinued, the purchase of additional licenses is no longer possible, and Precisely may discontinue online help and product training for the end-of-life products.

Studio with Connect: The life cycle policy for Studio with Connect entails Full Support for all major and minor releases for a period of two years from the release date. Following the Full Support phase, there is an additional year of Limited Support before reaching the End of Life phase. Moving forward, specific life cycle policies for product versions will be published on this page.

For instance, Studio with Connect version 12.1 receives Full Support for two years from the release date, followed by one year of Limited Support before reaching the End of Life phase.

Starting in 2023, product versions are identified using the convention X.Y.Z, where X represents the year, Y represents the product version number, and Z (or left blank/no number) denotes the maintenance release number. This convention allows for the identification of individual product versions as well as ranges of versions that include maintenance releases and hotfixes.

For information regarding support related to third-party products used with Studio, please refer to the Third-Party Products: Support section.

* As per our Studio-Foundation Compatibility Matrix policy, the full support of Automate is contingent on the lifecycle policy of third-party products with which these products works.

Since Precisely can’t address third-party software vulnerabilities related to legacy Foundation and User Governance products and since there won’t be new releases of these products, customers using them should consider planning to purchase and migrate to Evolve and/or Studio Manager. These products will be updated with their third-party software components and provide interoperability with newer third-party software versions and the associated security fix remediation going forward.

For example: The Foundation 11.x, 12.0 and 12.1 with Microsoft SharePoint 2016 is in limited support because Microsoft ended mainstream support for Microsoft SharePoint 2016 on July 13, 2021. Thus, if there are any issues on these Foundation product versions because of SharePoint 2016 (like security issues), we will not be able to provide support for these issues. To receive Full Support on this product line, we recommend migrating to Evolve.  Please contact your sales account executive for more information on migrating to Evolve or Studio Manager.
